# AI dental scribe

An AI dental scribe is software that listens to a visit, with consent, and drafts clinical notes for the dentist to review and approve.

An AI scribe uses speech recognition and language models to turn a patient visit into a draft note. A 2026 paper says documentation burden and cognitive load contribute to clinician burnout, and ambient AI scribes offer a promising solution, though real-world evaluations remain limited.

That paper studied medical settings, so dental results may differ. The dentist must read and correct every note before it is signed.

Recording a visit brings privacy duties.
