Artificial intelligence in dentistry
Artificial intelligence in dentistry is software that studies images or records to help with diagnosis, and that can also support office tasks such as notes.
The FDA says AI-enabled medical devices can analyze large and complex datasets, identify patterns, and generate information that may support disease detection, diagnosis, treatment, and other aspects of health care.
In dentistry, the main use is image review. A 2026 paper says the rapid adoption of digital radiography has produced large volumes of imaging data, which creates chances for AI tools to help with diagnostic interpretation.
AI is also used for notes and office work, such as an AI dental scribe. A dentist remains responsible for diagnosis and records. Ask vendors about FDA status, accuracy data and how patient data is stored. See also HIPAA.
