# Dental speaker

A dental speaker is a dentist or other professional who gives lectures or workshops on clinical, practice or team topics at meetings, study clubs and conferences.

Dental speakers teach at society meetings, [study clubs](https://joncopeland.multisites.ai/glossary/study-club), company events and large conferences. Topics range from clinical technique to team leadership and practice business.

The federal Office of Inspector General defines company speaker programs as events where a health care professional makes a speech or presentation to other professionals about a product or disease state on behalf of a company. Speaker programs paid by a company bring fraud and abuse risks and need careful rules.

A speaker who shows a company product should disclose any tie to that company. Many meetings also ask the speaker to meet the host's [continuing education](https://joncopeland.multisites.ai/glossary/continuing-education) rules. Planners often hire through a [speakers bureau](https://joncopeland.multisites.ai/glossary/speakers-bureau) or direct contact.
