# Exit strategy

The owner's plan for how and when to leave the practice and what to do with its value, such as a sale, a phased hand-off or a close.

An exit strategy is a plan for leaving a business. The SBA describes the task as creating a thorough plan to transfer ownership, sell or close the business, and it points owners to local guidance for planning their exit.
