Dental billing
Dental billing is preparing and sending claims to insurers and statements to patients for services provided, then posting payments and following up on unpaid balances.
Dental billing covers the work after treatment: coding the services, preparing the claim, sending it to the payer, posting payment and billing the patient for any balance. The ADA publishes a standard dental claim form that provides a common format for reporting dental services to a patient's dental benefit plan. Billing is one stage of the revenue cycle. Errors in coding or missing information can delay payment, so many offices review claims before sending. Billing may be done by the practice team or by an outside service. Either way, the practice remains responsible for accuracy. Each dental claim should match the chart.
