Performance review
A scheduled conversation that evaluates an employee's work against set expectations and agrees on goals for the next period, usually as part of a wider performance cycle.
A performance review is a planned discussion of how well an employee has done a job. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management treats appraisal as one part of a cycle. Planning means setting performance expectations and goals for groups and individuals to channel their efforts toward achieving organizational objectives.
The cycle also includes monitoring, developing, rating and rewarding. OPM notes that performance management involves much more than assigning ratings.A review works well when it builds on a clear job description and regular feedback.
Reviews may link to pay or to a bonus program. Employment law applies to documents and decisions. An HR adviser or attorney can review a process. This entry is general information.
