Treatment plan
A treatment plan is the ordered guide to a patient's care, set by the dentist's diagnosis, listing the treatment recommended to restore or maintain oral health.
The ADA's glossary of dental terms defines a treatment plan as the sequential guide for the patient's care as determined by the dentist's diagnosis, used by the dentist for restoration to and maintenance of oral health. In practice the plan lists procedures, their order, timing and fees. The ADA advises having the patient sign the treatment plan, and notes the signature shows the patient understands what is recommended and why, but does not obligate the patient to proceed. The plan is explained during a case presentation. A treatment coordinator or other team member may then cover financial details with the patient in private.
