Dental laser
A dental laser is a device that uses a focused beam of light to treat soft tissue and, with some types, hard tissue.
A dental laser is a tool that uses focused light. A 2026 review based on an FDI policy statement says lasers have become an important adjunct in dentistry. It lists minimally invasive approaches for caries removal, endodontic disinfection, periodontal therapy, and debonding of prosthetic or orthodontic parts.
Different laser types suit different tasks, and a dentist needs training in the model used.
Lasers do not replace all other tools. An owner who considers one should look at use, training time and cost together. See technology return on investment and digital dentistry.
