Dental practice KPIs

Dental practice KPIs are the specific numbers a dental owner tracks, such as production, collections, new patients, accounts receivable and insurance claim aging.

The ADA lists possible KPIs for a dental practice: accounts receivable, the number of new patients, insurance claim aging, production per provider, patient demographics, and the number of patients by referral source. Its longer list of commonly tracked measures starts with production and collections and also asks how many new patients arrive each month. The ADA suggests pulling the last three months of data on the chosen measures as a starting point. Each practice should write down how every KPI is calculated so that numbers stay comparable from month to month. See key performance indicator for the general idea.
