Hygiene recall

Hygiene recall is the recall system for preventive visits with the hygienist, such as cleanings and periodic exams, including reminders and rebooking of overdue patients.

Hygiene recall is a part of recall that focuses on preventive visits. The ADA advises using management software to run monthly reports of overdue patients and naming a team member to contact them. It also notes that some patients prefer to book their next appointment at the end of the current one. The JADA review of recall intervals describes recall protocols as a way to prevent dental disease through regular maintenance evaluations and preventive procedures, and it found the evidence for any single interval weak. Practices therefore set intervals by patient risk and keep records of who is due. Reliable hygiene recall supports patient retention.
