Immediate implant placement

Immediate implant placement means placing a dental implant on the same day a tooth is removed, into the fresh extraction socket.

In immediate implant placement, the dentist removes a tooth and puts an implant into the empty socket in the same visit. A 2026 paper says it has been advocated to preserve buccal bone architecture and shorten overall treatment time.

It is not right for every site. Surgeons often use a CBCT scan to plan.

The implant may also get a temporary crown on the same day. See immediate provisionalization. Whether a general dentist places implants depends on training and state rules.
