Implant-restoring dentist

An implant-restoring dentist is a dentist who builds and attaches the crown, bridge or denture on an implant, and may or may not place the implant.

Implant care is often shared. One dentist may place the implant, and another builds the tooth on top. A published paper describes a therapeutic challenge for both the implant surgeon and the restorative dentist when they match soft tissue edges around front-tooth implants.

The restoring dentist plans the final tooth, takes the scan or impression and delivers the implant crown. Good teamwork starts with a shared plan before surgery.

A dentist may do one step or both. State rules and training decide what a dentist may do. See dental implant and guided implant surgery.
