Implant system

An implant system is a manufacturer's set of implant bodies, abutments, screws and tools that are designed to work together.

The FDA says dental implant systems consist of a dental implant body and dental implant abutment and may also include an abutment fixation screw. A system also includes surgical drills and tools made for those parts.

Parts are made to work with the same system. A dentist who restores an implant placed elsewhere may need to identify the system first.

Manufacturers must show the FDA their systems are as safe and effective as systems already on the market. See dental implant and implant-restoring dentist.
