Implant crown
An implant crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is attached to a dental implant, usually through an abutment, to replace the visible part of a tooth.
An implant crown sits on top of an implant. The FDA explains that an abutment is usually attached to the implant body by a screw and extends through the gums into the mouth to support the attached artificial teeth.
A dental implant can be placed by one dentist and restored by another.
A temporary crown may be placed first. See implant temporization. Material, shape and position affect how the tooth looks and wears, especially in the esthetic zone. The final shape also depends on where the implant sits in the jaw.
