Esthetic zone

The esthetic zone is the area of front teeth and gums seen when a person smiles, where appearance carries the most weight in treatment planning.

The esthetic zone is the part of the mouth that shows in a smile, mostly the upper front teeth. A 2026 study notes the maxillary anterior esthetic zone is of particular importance in implant dentistry. The thickness of the labial bone influences implant position, facial soft tissue support and bone stability after extraction.

Because small changes in gum shape or tooth position are visible here, planning is more detailed. Dentists may use CBCT scans and a temporary crown to shape the tissue. See immediate provisionalization.

The term also appears in plans for an implant crown. Results depend on bone, tissue type and patient factors.
