Onboarding
The process of welcoming and training a new team member, from paperwork and introductions to systems and first goals, so the person can work well in the practice.
Onboarding is how a practice introduces a new hire to the job, the team and the way things are done. The SBA says a thoughtful onboarding process helps new team members become productive faster, builds confidence and increases the likelihood they will stay with the business.
A plan may cover paperwork, introductions, policies, systems, safety training and clear first-week goals. It links to the employee handbook, the job description and ongoing team training.
Onboarding also relates to employee retention, since early experience shapes whether new people stay. Required training, such as safety training, comes from law. This entry gives a general definition and describes no specific program.
