Team and HR

Practice administrator

A senior business role that leads the non-clinical operations of a practice or group, such as finance, HR and facilities.

A practice administrator is a senior business leader for a practice or a group of offices. The role usually covers non-clinical work such as finance, human resources, facilities and compliance. The Bureau of Labor Statistics describes medical and health services managers as people who plan, direct and coordinate the business activities of healthcare providers.

Titles are not standard across dentistry. Some groups use practice administrator for a role above a practice manager. Others use the words for the same job. The office manager role is often narrower and focused on daily front office work.

A written job description shows what a title means in each office. This entry is a general definition only.
