Fee schedule

A fee schedule is the list of fees a practice charges for each procedure, or the list of amounts a payer will allow for each procedure under a contract.

Two lists share the name. A practice has its own fee schedule, the established fees it sets for each service. The ADA's associate guide refers to total production as set by that established fee schedule. A payer has its own list of amounts it will allow. The ADA says there is no universally accepted method for determining a plan's customary fee schedule, and that it may vary greatly among plans, even in the same area. A contract can allow less than the practice's own fee, which creates the gap between gross production and net production. See also usual and customary fee. Practices should check fees against the laws and contracts that apply.
